What is Herdy?
Herdy is an Australian carpooling app that helps drivers and passengers in Sydney share rides and split petrol costs.
Drivers post a trip, passengers request a seat, and the cost of the journey is shared through the app.
Herdy is designed for everyday travel — including commutes and repeat routes — not just occasional long-distance trips.
Herdy is app-only. The website explains the service, while ride-sharing and connecting happen in the mobile app.

Browsing rides and creating an account is completely free.
When you join a ride, the total amount charged consists of two parts: the driver's cost contribution (set by the driver to recover their actual running costs) plus a Herdy platform service fee of 15% (minimum $1.50). The platform fee covers matching, secure payments, and ongoing platform improvements.
Posting a ride as a driver is free — you simply receive payment when others join your trip.
When you request a ride, you enter your card details and authorise the payment — your card is not charged immediately.
You are only charged if the driver accepts your request. Once accepted, the payment is securely held and released to the driver 1 week after the ride date. This short delay allows time to manage any disputes if needed.
All payments are processed securely via Stripe.
Safety is at the heart of Herdy. All users verify their phone number and email when registering. Optional identity verification is also available to build additional trust within the community.
Every ride includes ratings and reviews, helping everyone make informed decisions. You can also message drivers before requesting a ride to make sure the trip is right for you.
Yes. You can cancel at any time directly from the app.
If you cancel, you’ll receive a full refund (and if a driver cancels, you also receive a full refund including the service fee).
We aim to keep things fair and transparent for everyone.
If there are no rides available for your route and date, you can set up a ride alert.
Simply enter the route and travel date you’re looking for, and we’ll notify you via push notification and email as soon as a matching ride is posted.
